Katelyn Rose King (percussion) and Dustin Zorn (electronic music) will present the Taperuler, an original electro-acoustic instrument created during their collaborative research process. Percussion practice, DIY instrument-building and composition skills were employed to explore the tactility of tape in micro-lab settings. The talk will discuss the development from the initial sketches to the assemblage of a playable instrument, reflecting on how the affordances of the object and the collaborators shape the musical possibilities of an emerging musical practice.
