How can arts-based practices respond to and mediate experiences of grief and loss? To address this question, Wolfgang Schmid and Jill Halstead present an
interdisciplinary approach exploring the role of music within end-of-life care as a medium for relation and expression when experiences exceed or resist language.
Their presentation includes a lecture-performance that addresses methodological and ethical questions in ar ts-based and participatory research, on the one hand,
and a screening followed by collective reflection on the short film “Last(ing) Music” (an audiovisual essay on music therapy at the end of life that employs
arts-based methods to narrate a composite case study), on the other.
