Brazilian Popular Music at the Crossroads:
Perspectives and Paths on Rhythmics and Corporeality

Popular Brazilian music has multiple expressive and contextual dimensions, making it a vast and plural universe.
However, there is a tendency towards stigmatised views that fail to provide a more in-depth and contextualised
understanding of central aspects of popular musical practices. Starting from this problematisation, the lecture
presents a perspective centred on the concept of crossroads, based on the Afro-Brazilian worldview, proposing a
reflection on the multiplicity of paths for analysing and interpreting Brazilian music.
