Artivism – Has music the potential for social transformation?

This workshop explores the role of music in moments of social and political mobilizationin Serbia, from the 1990s to recent protest movements. Through selected examples ofprotest songs and artistic interventions, we will discuss how music can function as a tool of resistance, solidarity, and collective memory, but also how it carries ideologicaland political meanings within different historical moments.

Željko Grulović is an independent researcher, cultural worker, psychologist and artist based in Serbia. His work focuses on contemporary art, cultural policy, and the role of independent cultural initiatives in times of political and social transformation. He is involved in several collective platforms and projects that explore art as a space of critique, solidarity, and social imagination.
