SUMMARY:2025 IASJ Jazz Meeting an der GMPU
DESCRIPTION:The IASJ\, the International Association of Schools of Jazz\, offers you the opportunity to connect on a worldwide level to jazz performance\, education\, and research. Developments in jazz occur everywhere\, all the time. The IASJ gives you a thorough insight and a personal connection to what is taking place in jazz. \nAs a jazz performer\, educator\, or researcher\, you can join the IASJ either as an individual member.\nAs a representative of a jazz school\, you can join the IASJ as an associate member\, representing your institution.\nAs a donator\, you can support the IASJ with an annual donation. \nThe Gustav Mahler Private University of Music is very proud that the IASJ Meeting 2025 will take place this time in Klagenfurt at the beautiful Wörthersee.\nKlemens Markl\, Coordinator and head of the Jazz Institute at the GMPU\, reports: \n„I am an accomplished Austrian jazz drummer\, composer\, and educator\, widely regarded for my versatility and skill in both traditional and contemporary jazz. I have released several recordings as a bandleader and composer\, showcasing my ability to blend different musical influences with a unique voice. Having lived in The Netherlands and New York for many years\, I have had the fortunate to record for the well-known Fresh Sound New Talent Jazz Label. I worked with top-notch musicians like Joe Locke\, Seamus Blake\, Chris Cheek\, John Ellis\, Aaron Goldberg\, Dave Kikoski\, Boris Kozlov\, and Matt Penman. \nI also had the privilege to perform in various jazz clubs in New York\, e.g. Smalls Jazzclub\, Mezzrow\, Kitano Jazzclub with John DiMartino\, Peter Bernstein\, Tim Armacost as well as jazz legend Don Friedman. Likewise\, I am also very proud of my Piano Duo Improvisation with Chick Corea during his concert at the Congress Center in Villach\, Austria. \nSince September 2023\, I am the head of the Jazz Institute at the Gustav Mahler Private University of Music (GMPU) in Klagenfurt. The GMPU will celebrate a 40-year history\, evolving from its inception in the Carinthian State Conservatory to its current status as an internationally recognized institution. The Jazz Institute at GMPU is known for its practical approach to education\, blending both traditional and contemporary jazz techniques. Students receive a comprehensive education in various aspects of jazz\, ranging from improvisation to ensemble performance. A strong emphasis is placed on nurturing creativity\, independence\, and artistic expression.“ \nA special highlight will be the visit of the Canadian jazz saxophonist Seamus Blake\, who accepted our invitation\, which we are very proud of.
